HMRC Third Sector Grant Funding Programme for 2009-10 - the results

In 2009-10 HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) allocated funding of £2 million across 54 voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations to support HMRC customers needing extra help with HMRC related issues.

Key achievements

  • An additional tax liability declared of over £10 million - an increase of 230 per cent on the previous year.
  • An additional £28 million of claims being made in respect of tax credits, benefits and tax repayments - an increase of over 250 per cent on the previous year.
  • Over 4,000 newly trained VCS advisers having the capability to support HMRC customers.
  • The increased numbers of VCS advisers now have the capacity to support an additional 220,000 customers per year on HMRC related issues.

Next steps

HMRC will announce details of their grant funding programme, for the four years commencing 1 April 2011, early in the new year.
