FAQs - administration periods

Q.What is the administration period and when does it end?

A. It's the period that runs from the day after the date of death and ends when you have taken all steps necessary to complete the administration of the estate. This will include finalising the tax affairs of the deceased to the date of death, agreeing any Inheritance Tax liability, and paying, or making provision for, all known debts and liabilities, including Inheritance Tax and any legacies. Depending on the circumstances, it may also include making the final distribution to the beneficiaries of the will or under the intestacy provisions.
