Finance Bill 2010

Finance Bills published in 2010

Finance Bill 2010 was published on 1 April 2010 and it became The Finance Act 2010 (Opens new window) on 8th April 2010. It contains the legislation for some of the proposals announced by the previous Government in the Pre Budget Report on 9 December 2009 and in the Budget on 24 March 2010.

A new Parliament was formed after the General Election on 6 May 2010, and 2 further Finance Bills have now been published.

Because the first one, published on 1 July 2010 falls into a new Parliamentary session, it is also referred to as Finance Bill 2010. This Finance Bill received Royal Assent and has become Finance (No2) Act 2010 as of 27 July 2010.

The second one is referred to as Finance (No2) Bill 2010, and was published on 30 September 2010 and received Royal Assent on 16 December 2010 and has become Finance (No 3 ) Act 2010.

All Finance Acts can be found on the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) internet pages from the links shown on this page.

Finance (No2) Bill 2010. An informal consultation

Draft legislation has been published on 12 July 2010 on technical tax measures inherited from the previous government that are to be legislated in a Finance Bill to be introduced to Parliament in the autumn. The Government would welcome comments by 3rd September 2010. They are not seeking comments on the policy but to ensure that the legislation works as intended.. Each piece of draft legislation which can be accessed via the link below to HM Treasury, is accompanied in the same document by a draft explanatory note. These are intended to assist the reader in understanding the legislation, but are not meant to be a comprehensive description of the legislation. So, where a section or part of a section does not seem to require any explanation or comment, none is given.

The Government has confirmed that the Bill will be published on 30 September.
