Taxback Campaign 2009

The Chancellor announced in this year’s Budget that a new Taxback campaign would be launched.

The campaign will have two strands

  • we will be writing to all recipients of Pension Credit (3.4 million letters over a five week period starting on 26 October and ending on 27 November which equates to around 140,000 a day), to encourage individuals to claim back any tax they have overpaid on their bank and building society interest and going forward to register to have any future interest payments made gross.
  • we will be running a campaign of advertising in local radio and press two to three weeks after the first letters are issued on 26 October

The information packs give a phone number and web address for more information. The dedicated Taxback Campaign phone number is Tel 0845 366 7850 .

Banks and building societies may be asked by their customers to provide section 975 certificates, or other information that would allow them to complete claim forms. The earliest year that can currently have tax repaid is 2003-04.
