Check if you qualify for tax credits - quick questionnaire
Using this quick online questionnaire will help you to find out if you are likely to qualify for tax credits. It will not give you a definite answer - to get this you will actually need to make a claim - but it will let you know if it's worth reading more about tax credits or getting in touch with the Tax Credit Helpline to make a claim.
The amount of tax credits you may qualify for will depend on your personal circumstances and your total income. The higher your income, the less tax credits you may be able to get.
The questionnaire should take no more than five minutes to complete.
Before you start
It may be helpful for you to get details, or have a rough idea, of your total income (including your partner's if you have one) for both:
- the tax year from 6 April 2008 to 5 April 2009
- the tax year from 6 April 2009 to 5 April 2010
Don't use this questionnaire if...
Don't use this questionnaire if :
- you have a severe disability - this means you get the Highest Rate Care Component of Disability Living Allowance or the Higher Rate of Attendance Allowance
- you have a partner with a disability
If either of these situations applies to you, you can check if you're likely to get tax credits by ringing the Tax Credit Helpline on Tel 0845 300 3900 or textphone 0845 300 3909. It's open from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm seven days a week except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Alternatively you can use a more detailed questionnaire which takes
about 10-15 minutes to complete. This will give you a more accurate
idea of whether you’re likely to qualify, and if so how much you might
get.
