Q. How do I make an appeal?

A. You will need to telephone the Tax Credits helpline and ask for an appeal form. The Helpline may be able to resolve your problem without the need for an appeal.

Q. How long will it take to finalise my appeal?

A. It may be that the problem can be dealt with immediately. If your appeal goes to a Tribunal hearing, it may take a number of months depending on the volume of work at the Appeals Service.

Q. Is appealing the only way to get my decision corrected?

A. No, it may be that we can sort out your problem immediately, please telephone the Tax Credits helpline and ask for advice.

Q. Who will hear my appeal?

A. The Appeals Service will arrange for hearing of your appeal by an independent panel.

Q. Will my payments stop until the appeal is dealt with?

A. No, payments will continue. We may pay arrears to you after your appeal has ended.

Q. Will the appeal cost me anything?

A. No, there is no charge for an appeal.
