Students: Students getting work experience as part of studying

You do not normally get paid for undertaking work experience.

You may be engaged under a contract of training as part of your course of study or learning. Anything you receive under that contract is not likely to be chargeable to tax or subject to National Insurance contributions (NICs).

This is because you are either:

• not required to provide any service to your employer or
  
• any service that is provided is minor.
