What is Job Seeker's Allowance?
Job Seeker's Allowance is money to help you get by when you’re out of work. To get it, you have to go to your local Jobcentre and show them that you’re looking for a job. You also have to be 18 or over, unless you’re having to live away from home, or looking after a child. An eighteen-year-old would get £44.50 a week. If you’re younger and you qualify, you’d get about £10 less than that, £33.85.
It’s also possible to get money called Income Support, but only in exceptional circumstances – like you can’t get a job because you have to look after a sick relative, for instance.
If you want to find out more about these benefits, take a look at the Department for Work and Pensions website.
