Why should you read these pages?
Because you might learn something to your advantage!
You need to know a bit about tax, National Insurance contributions and tax credits, and how they will affect you when you leave school. Everyone who works has to pay tax and most have to pay National Insurance contributions – and that includes you.
When you leave school and start working, money will be taken out of your wage packet before you get it. You’ll want to know how to get your money back if you find out you’ve paid too much tax. You’ll also need to know what you’re entitled to – like tax-free allowances and the National Minimum Wage.
The more you know about tax, the better off you’ll be – it will mean that you’re in control of your money.
