During the processing of the August 2007 statistics, an error was discovered in the code used to produce the statistics that would have affected the previously published 2006 statistics. The only cases which should be included in this publication are ones with a live entitlement as at 31 August 2006, a few cases were discovered that had already ceased prior to 31 August 2006 and thus should not have been included in the analysis.
This has had the effect of lowering the total number of tax credit recipients by around 3 per cent, the reduction has been across the board and neither concentrated in any specific geographical areas nor any tax credit profile position grouping.
We have therefore taken the step of reproducing the 2006 statistics and republishing them at the same time as the 2007 statistics, to ensure accuracy and consistency. This issue does not affect the 2005 statistics.
