Local Authorities and Other Government Departments will soon able to register for Stamp Taxes Online

Registration Solution

Due to the HMRC registration process it is vital that Stamp Taxes Online adheres to the HMRC security processes. Part of this process is for the user to insert a unique identifier that HMRC recognises during the registration process. For example this can be:

  • Self Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference Number (SA UTR);
  • Companies House Registration Number
  • Self Assessment Partnership Number

However we are aware that a minority of our users do not have these unique identifiers. In order to rectify this, we have proactively worked with our colleagues within HMRC to deliver a solution for this small group.

We are pleased to announce that we are in the process of implementing a solution and we envisage contacting all the relevant parties no later than February 2008.

Pilot

To ensure the solution encompasses all the potential users processes we are currently piloting the scheme with interested parties. The feedback has been very positive up to this point and we are currently evaluating the process.

What's next?

In due course you will receive a letter explaining this process in full, this will also include a questionnaire. We ask that you complete this and return it to the contact within the letter.

Timeframe

If you are a county or district council and have not heard anything from HMRC Stamp Taxes by the end of February 2008 and you wish to register, please contact Rachel Varndell.
