Consideration: the £150,000 limit

If you are purchasing a freehold residential property the consideration is the price paid for the property. This must be £150,000 or less for the purchase to qualify for disadvantaged areas relief.

If you are acquiring a residential lease, then we look separately at the premium and the rent payable under the lease.

If the lease premium is £150,000 or less and the average annual rent is £600 or less, then the premium can qualify for disadvantaged areas relief.

If the net present value of the rent is £150,000 or less, then the rent can also qualify for relief.

You can use our stamp duty land tax lease transactions calculator to calculate the net present value.
