A Protocol to the Double Taxation Convention between the UK and Singapore (PDF 19K) was signed in Singapore on 24 August 2009 by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore's Minister of Finance, and the Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
The Protocol updates the exchange of information Article of the existing Agreement to bring it into line with current OECD standard and practice.
The text of the Protocol is available on HM Revenue & Customs' website, at: Tax Treaties - Signed/not in force. The text will shortly be laid as a Schedule to a draft Order in Council for consideration by the House of Commons. It will then also be available from the Stationery Office.
Before the Protocol can enter into force it will be necessary for Singapore to amend its domestic law on exchange of information. Therefore once the UK has completed its procedures to bring the Protocol into force it will notify Singapore of this. Then once Singapore has both amended its domestic law and completed its procedures to bring the Protocol into force it will notify the UK. The Protocol will enter into force 30 days after the date of the notification from Singapore to the UK.
