Filling in the forms

Completing the forms for automatic processing

Because the information you enter on the forms is processed and stored by machines there are limits to the number of characters, including spaces, which each part of a question is able to accept. On the pre-printed paper form these are indicated by small boxes into which each character must be inserted. A blank box denotes a space.

Similar limits apply if you use a method where you enter the data on a computer screen. If you reach the limit to the number of characters available the screen will not accept any further entry. Shorten your answer within the limit allowed by that question. Where necessary use commonly accepted abbreviations. For questions where a short narrative is required try to use fewest and shortest words. If this restriction prevents you from making an accurate return contact the Stamp Taxes Helpline, for advice.
