The 2009-10 Tax Return
Self Assessment Tax Return Pages for third party software developers
These pages are intended to help third party software developers create their products using draft versions of the 2009-10 SA Tax Returns which can be viewed as they are developed.
Please note: This section of our website is intended for use by third party software developers only.
From 2007-08 onwards, no substitute Individual, Partnership or Trust & Estate Tax returns will be permitted or approved by HMRC. HMRC will continue to approve substitutes for forms other than the Individual, Partnership and Trust & Estate Returns
Draft versions of SA Tax Returns have been updated in line with the timetable shown below. They are available in Quark format or PDF format.
What the drafts cover
The drafts cover the SA Tax Returns SA100, SA700, SA800, SA900 and SA970 and associated supplementary pages, return notes and help sheets. HMRC develop the return forms and supplementary pages first, and then the guidance.
These drafts are still under review and there may be further changes to text.
Unfortunately, the HM Revenue & Custom’s software does not allow us to track changes from last year's versions. However, PDFs with changes highlighted are provided for all Returns and Supplementary pages and these will highlight the changes.

When will they be available?
A timetable has been produced to give details of what will be produced and when. Although we will aim to provide drafts by the date specified in the timetable, sometimes there might be a short delay in the publication date if the drafts are not quite ready. This will be indicated by a later date in the ‘publication date’ column in the return drafts tables than the date specified in the timetable. The drafts will be published as soon as possible after the date given in the timetable, and should be available before the later publication date.
Final versions before proof reading
The final versions before proof reading will be available on these pages later this year. Please note that these versions may be subject to some minor amendments if problems are picked up during proof reading. Any changes will be shown in the final printed version, which will be published on the HMRC website on 6 April 2010.
Software developers can expect to receive their usual advance specimens of the printed paper forms; these will be available in March 2010.
