The 2007/08 Tax Return

Details of the Self Assessment Tax Return Pages for third party software developers.

These pages are intended to help third party software developers create their products using draft versions of the 2007-08 SA Tax Returns which can be viewed as they are developed.

Please note: This section of our website is intended for use by third party software developers only.

Change for 2007-08

In the past, the 3rd party product range has included the facility to print off ‘approved’ paper substitutes to be signed and then returned through the post to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

However, for 2007-08 onwards, no substitute individual, partnership or Trust & Estate Tax Returns will be permitted or approved by HMRC (customers will no doubt welcome the facility to print off return information to retain information for their records, where this is incorporated into a product) (PDF 37K).

From 2007-08 SA customers can file their return by either doing so online (using HMRC or 3rd party commercial software products), or by sending a completed official HMRC printed paper version through the post.

HMRC will continue to approve substitutes for forms other than the individual, partnership and Trust & Estate Returns

Draft versions of returns have been updated in line with the timetable shown below. They are available in PageMaker/Quark format or PDF format.

What the drafts cover

HMRC develop the core returns and supplementary pages first, and then the guidance.

These forms are still under review and there may be further changes to text.

The SA100 Return has fundamentally changed and the changes from 2006-07 are not documented in detail. For subsequent changes on the SA100, SA800 and SA900 forms, significant changes will be included in the changes document (PDF 59K) (updated 12 December 2007) for each return type.

How to access the drafts

When will they be available?

The following links will give you access to the latest drafts when they become available.

A timetable has been produced to give details of what will be produced and when.

Final versions before proof reading

The final versions before proof reading will be available on these pages later this year. Please note that these versions may be subject to some minor amendments if problems are picked up during proof reading. Any changes will be shown in the final printed version, which will be published on the HMRC website on 6 April 2008.

Software developers can expect to receive their usual advance specimens of the printed paper forms; these will be available in March 2008.
