Technical information has been published to enable software developers to build payroll software products capable of reporting under the new RTI service. Some employers may also find this useful.
Employers who are not part of the pilot must join RTI in the period from April 2013 to October 2013. All employers will be using the RTI service by October 2013.
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will pilot the RTI service with volunteer software developers and employers for a year, starting in April 2012 to make sure it is thoroughly tested.

As with all new software services, HMRC will be maintaining a feedback log, which will be published. Any changes to the technical information will be incorporated in future updates to the service, following the usual software release cycle.
