What is an Activation Token and how do I get one?
The Activation Token is a unique one-off security code provided at the first
stage of the online registration process (known as pre-registration, when
you apply for a Scheme Administrator/Practitioner ID. If HMRC has completed
stage 1 (pre-registered) the Activation Token will be sent through the post
within 5 days. You will use the Activation Token to switch the service on
as soon as you complete the online service registration process. This cuts
out the need of having to wait for a separate Activation PIN (normally needed
to activate your chosen online service) to come through the post.
What if I lose or didn’t make a note of my Activation Token?
HMRC cannot issue duplicate Activation Tokens. If you fail to make a note
of your Activation Token at pre-registration or you lose it, when you register
to use the online service, the Government Gateway will send an Activation
PIN by post within 7 days, so that you can use this to activate the service.
What is an Activation PIN and how do I get one?
The Activation Personal Identity Number (PIN) is a twelve character security code which you use to activate an online service. This is sent to you by post when you complete the online service registration process. You will only need an Activation PIN to register for Pension Schemes Online if you failed to make a note of or lost the Activation Token provided at pre-registration.
