Pension Schemes - Frequently Asked Questions
Role Of SPSS
Occupational Schemes
Q. Will the SPSS intervene in a dispute between a scheme member and a scheme administrator?
A. No. The primary role of the SPSS is to exercise the Board of
Inland Revenue's discretionary powers to approve retirement benefit schemes
set up by employers for their employees and personal pension schemes under
which the self employed and employees who have no other pension arrangements
can provide for their retirement. Therefore we will not become involved
in any dispute between the scheme administrator and the members. We are
also bound by strict rules of confidentiality in our dealings with the
scheme administrator or their agent.
If after consulting the scheme administrator or their agent you have
been unable to resolve your dispute you can seek free help and advice
from the Occupational Pensions Advisory Service (OPAS). You can contact
them at:
11 Belgrave Rd
London
SW1V 1RB
Tel: 0845 6012923
If OPAS are unable to resolve your dispute on your behalf, it can help
if you make a formal complaint to the Pensions Ombudsman.
