Agent authorisation for tax credits

Agents have informed HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) of instances when they haven't been able to deal with the department on behalf of their clients in relation to tax credits. This follows an announcement in 2010 that HMRC's Contact Centres would no longer confirm the authorisation of an agent to deal with tax credits through the Self Assessment system. A separate authorisation would be required.

Working closely with the agent community, HMRC has been looking at improving how tax agents and advisers can set up and manage client authorisations for tax credits to help them when they contact the department in the run up to the 31 January tax credits deadline.
