2014 - 15 PAYE Coding Notice - for individuals

During January, February and March HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will be sending out new tax codes for 2014-15 tax year.

PAYE Coding Notice

During the above period you may get a PAYE Coding Notice from HMRC telling you what your new tax code will be for 2014-15. It's likely that you will have more than one tax code if you have:

  • two or more jobs at the same time
  • income from two or more pensions
  • pension income and a job

HMRC may send you a PAYE Coding Notice for each job or pension so you don't need to contact them if you get more than one PAYE Coding Notice. Your new tax code will be used from 6 April 2014 to make sure you pay the correct amount if tax.

Not everyone needs to get a PAYE Coding Notice, so don't worry if you don't receive one - your employer or pension provider will still be able to update your tax code on 6 April 2014.

What you need to do with your PAYE Coding Notice

Your PAYE Coding Notice is for you to keep. HMRC tells your employer or pension provider what your tax code is. If you have an agent or tax adviser acting for you, you may need to show them your PAYE Coding Notice as HMRC no longer send out copies to agents or tax advisers. If you're an employee or get a company or personal pension and are enrolled for Self Assessment Online, you can view your PAYE Coding Notices online.
