A New Relationship between HMRC and small and medium business

The integration of the Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise created an opportunity to deliver real benefits for small and medium businesses.

HMRC has published five papers that set out the new relationship that the department aspires to have with small and medium business, and the progress made towards realising that relationship.

Working towards a new relationship
Published at Budget 2005, sets out some of the steps already being taken to reduce the administrative burdens of tax on small businesses and to improve the relationship they have with the tax authorities. The paper also describes future developments and asks small businesses, their representatives and advisers for their views on priorities.

Making the new relationship a reality
Published at 2005 Pre-Budget Report, is HMRC's response to the views expressed in the Budget 2005 consultation "Working towards a new relationship".

Progress towards a new relationship (PDF 115K)
Published at Budget 2006, sets out the steps that HMRC has already taken towards the new relationship with small business described in earlier documents, and gives details of future plans.

Published at 2006 Pre-Budget Report, sets out the vision that resulted from the dialogue with business described in earlier papers and outlines the initial planning milestones for delivering it by 2010-11.
