Earlier this year HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) announced that ID cards for foreign nationals issued by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) were no longer a valid form of identity when carrying out customer due diligence under the Money Laundering Regulations. HMRC have received confirmation from the UKBA that the ID card for foreign nationals was the previous name for Biometric Residence Permits and HMRC would like to clarify that these permits are still issued to non-EEA nationals staying in the UK for more than six-months as a form of ID.
