General

Review of links with business [PDF, 155K]
The report on the Inland Revenue's review of links with business was published on 27 November. The report contains 40 recommendations aimed at improving the Revenue's links with large corporates.

Review of links with business - action plan [PDF, 50K]
The Inland Revenue has drawn up a high level plan which outlines activities completed and planned to implement the recommendations contained in the Review of links with business. It will be updated quarterly with the next update due in December 2002.

Starting Up In Business
The Paymaster General has launched a campaign to get people starting their own business to register immediately with Inland Revenue.
There is a guide available which aims to help you understand some of the many things you need to think about when you're running a business, especially the main tax and National Insurance issues. We also highlight some other important areas of the law which aren't the Inland Revenue's responsibility - and we suggest where to go for further, more detailed information.

Business Support Teams
Our local Business Support Teams provide a series of half-day workshops to support new and small employers and businesses. We can also offer you detailed advice on all aspects of payroll, talk you through any problems you may be experiencing and we can also, if you wish, check that your payroll systems process information accurately and reliably.

Electronic Commerce
Here you will find details of the work the Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise are doing to meet the Government's clear aims for e-commerce in the UK.

Enhanced 100% Capital Allowances for Energy-Saving Investments
The Chancellor announced in Budget 2001 the introduction of a new scheme for 100% first year capital allowances (FYAs) for investments by businesses in designated energy-saving equipment. This scheme enables a business to write off immediately the whole of its capital spending on designated energy-saving plant and machinery against its taxable profits.
