The Shared Workspace Business Sponsor (SW Business Sponsor)
is responsible for appointing HMRC Business Authorising Officers
(BAOs) to each of their Rooms and for publishing any policies
relating to these appointments.
There must be a minimum of two BAOs for each Room and
sufficient BAOs must be appointed
SW05220 to maintain customer service
standards.
Note: The SW Business Sponsor is responsible for
appointing to each Room sufficient BAOs to ensure that the BAOs can
carry out all their responsibilities effectively and thoroughly
SW03520.
The BAO has overall responsibility for coordinating and
managing the activities of a Room, and is crucial to the effective
operation of the Shared Workspace service.
In many instances the BAO will be the manager of the HMRC
Members of the Room or the team leader who has responsibility for
the work being conducted within the Room but this may not be
exclusively the case.
In all cases it is essential that the SW Business Sponsor
appoints BAOs that satisfy all three of the following
categories:
The BAO must have detailed knowledge of the business conducted in the Room.
The BAO must have an association with the HMRC Members of the Room and be able to authenticate any Customer Organisation linked to it.
The BAO must have an appropriate level of responsibility depending on how the Room is being used.
The BAO must successfully complete the online HMRC BAO Learning package (prospectus item code 0010372) before they start their BAO responsibilities.
