Employee’s employment protection rights
Terminating someone’s employment because they take or seek to take adoption leave is automatically unfair dismissal.
If a customer needs more information about employment rights refer them to:
- Acas in Great Britain, or
- LRA in Northern Ireland.
Referrals to Acas or LRA
These guidelines only provide enough information to deal with basic enquiries about an employee’s entitlement to adoption leave. If you cannot answer the enquiry using these guidelines, refer the customer to the Acas or LRA. HMRC staff are not expected to become experts on adoption leave.
