SAM104040 – Records: trace taxpayer record: retrieve UTR from D reference

NTS will only display the Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) where the SA recordis not linked to a PAYE record.

Where the SA record is linked to a PAYE record, NTS will show the current employer reference (EMPREF), NINO, and PAYE responsible office.

Where there is a CODA record, NTS will show the Schedule D Reference. However an associated SA record may be held in a different office to the CODA record. Where a CODA reference is known make a note of it in function MAINTAIN SA NOTES.

Where you know the full Schedule D reference, function RETRIEVE UTR FROM D REFERENCE will enable you to trace the SA office with responsibility for processing work. After entering the Schedule D reference, you will be presented with a screen showing

  • Taxpayer information, so that you may check that the details are for the correct taxpayer
  • Schedule D reference, as entered by you
  • The UTR, and if present, the NINO
  • The Organisation Unit, identified by a six character number, followed by the name of the office responsible for SA processing work activity

The traced UTR can then be used to access other SA functions for the taxpayer.

The function MAINTAIN RESPONSIBLE OFFICE allows you to view the offices with responsibility for each type of Revenue activity for the taxpayer.
