RPSM03202062 - Member Pages: Protecting pension rights from tax charges: What do I need to do?: Copy certificate to scheme administrator

I want my scheme administrator to receive a copy of my certificate of protection

HMRC can not give information about a taxpayer’s affairs to another person unless the law specifically allows them to do so or the taxpayer authorises HMRC to release the information. For this reason HMRC does not give a copy of your certificate of protection to your scheme administrator(s).

If you want HMRC to give your scheme administrator(s) details of your certificate of protection you must authorise HMRC to release this information. This should be done by completing form APSS 203 and sending it to

Pension Schemes Services,
Fitzroy House,
Castle Meadow Road,
Nottingham,
NG2 1BD

The form is available from the HMRC website (hmrc.gov.uk/pension schemes/tax-simp-forms.htm - look under the ‘maintenance’ bullet point).

Once you have authorised HMRC the scheme administrator will be able to view your certificate on line, or if they prefer the scheme administrator can request to receive details of your certificate in the post using form APSS 209.
