Deferred annuity contracts (including assigned policies) made before 6 April 2006

A deferred annuity contract set up before 6 April 2006 but not in payment at 5 April 2006 automatically becomes a registered pension scheme on 6 April 2006 (unless those responsible for the deferred annuity contract have notified HMRC before 6 April 2006 that the scheme is not to be automatically registered from 6 April 2006).

There is no need for a scheme administrator or insurance company to take any action to register the policy with HMRC.

The same applies for a policy that was assigned to the member before 6 April 2006 but was not yet in payment at 5 April 2006.
