RPSM01000060 - About this manual: Page numbering explained

Page numbering explained

Every page displays the unique page reference number clearly at the top.

Manual name

RPSM 02207120

The page reference number starts with RPSM (Registered Pension Schemes Manual).

This is followed by an eight digit number. For an explanation of this number, please read on.

Chapter number

RPSM 02 207120

The first 2 digits represent the chapter number. These range from 01 (About this manual) to 14 (Transfers) at the present time. The Glossary has been given chapter number 20, to allow for further chapters to be included after 14 if necessary.

Type of guidance

RPSM02 2 07120

The third digit indicates whether the page is intended for a technical or legal reader (1), a scheme member or prospective member (2), a scheme administrator or practitioner (3), or an employer (4).

The exceptions to this, where the third digit is 0, are the first chapter (this one - About this manual) and the Glossary. There is only one version of each of these chapters.

Chapter subsection

RPSM022 07 120

The fourth and fifth digits indicate which subsection of the chapter the page is part of. This starts at 00 and continues 01, 02, 03 and so on. Some chapters have more than 10 subsections which is why two digits are necessary here. Each subsection has its own contents list, showing all the pages in that subsection.

The sixth, seventh and final digits represent the individual page number. In the first published version of the manual, before any amendments are made, all page numbers end in a zero. This will allow extra pages to be inserted between the original pages as necessary in the future, while avoiding the need to re-number all the pages following.
