RPSM02306120 - Scheme Administrator Pages: Registering a pension scheme with HMRC: Scheme administrator's role in the registration process: Registering a scheme on or after 6 April 2006: How do I link myself online to a pension scheme?
How do I link myself online to a pension scheme?
You must firstly be registered (see RPSM02306100 and RPSM02306110) for Pension Schemes for Administrators. If the pension scheme is not registered, you can do this by registering a new pension scheme. You can do this by logging in using your user ID and password (see RPSM02306100 and RPSM02306110).
Then you
- select Pension Schemes for Administrators from your list of services,
- select the HMRC free Pensions Product link or the 3rd Party Software link under "File your forms and returns", and
- if using HMRC's free Pensions Product, you then select "Register a new pension scheme" under "Registration".
Then you will be asked for information relating to the registration for tax relief and exemptions, which is
- the scheme name
- the legal structure of the scheme
- the scheme membership numbers
- whether there is a member with the ability to control how scheme assets are used
- the name(s) and address(es) of the person(s) who established the scheme
- your details (name, address, telephone number, e-mail address etc), which will be pre-populated (you should check these are still correct. If not, you should use ‘View or amend your details’ (see RPSM12307010) when you have completed registration, to make any necessary amendments).
You will also have to complete screens including certain declarations to be made by the scheme administrator, which are necessary for HMRC to register the scheme. This includes declarations that
- the scheme meets the conditions to be registered, see RPSM02306030, and
- the information given on the application is correct and complete, to the best of the scheme administrator's knowledge and belief, and
- the scheme administrator understands that giving false statements may lead to a penalty and/or prosecution, and may lead to the pension scheme being de-registered, and
- the instruments or agreements by which the scheme is constituted do not entitle any person to unauthorised payments.
If the application to register the scheme is successful, you will receive a success message letting you know that the scheme is registered, and the 'Acknowledgement of Registration' will be posted on your 'Pensions Noticeboard'. If you provide an e-mail address, you will receive an e-mail message telling you it is there. If you opted for paper notices and reminders as well as electronic ones, you will receive a paper 'Acknowledgement of Registration' in the post, but you will not receive an e-mail to look at your 'Pensions Noticeboard'.
The scheme record has been created and you are now linked to that scheme.
Other functions you can use
Twenty four hours after you have completed the scheme registration, you can select links to take you to
- authorise a practitioner (see RPSM02307000),
- associate additional scheme administrators (see RPSM12307220), or
- amend your details (see RPSM12307010).
