RE276A - Personal Pension Relief: Members of small lump sum retirement benefits scheme


An extra statutory concession (ESCA95) was published on 11 October 1996 (see TINTAX - Press Release 159/96 for full details of the text).

The ESC allows members of certain small lump sum retirement benefits schemes, who have inadvertently been contributing at the same time to personal pensions or retirement annuities, to keep their personal plans provided they give up the retirement lump sum from the occupational pension scheme for any period of dual membership. If they choose to give up the occupational pension scheme benefits and keep their personal pension/retirement annuities, any PPR/RAR given may stand.

The procedures described in Re213 and Re294 continues to apply in all cases of invalid contributions to personal pensions/retirement annuities which are not covered by the ESC.
