Weeding means removing and disposing of superfluous paper
from files.
Weeding papers from files saves file storage space and costs.
Weeded files are easier and quicker to work because there is
less material to sift through.
Weeded files are easier to carry and therefore less likely to
cause health or safety problems.
And weeding is now an important aspect to consider in the
light of rights of disclosure available under the Data Protection
and Freedom of Information Acts. For further information, please
see the Information Disclosure site on the IR Intranet.
