PSI13.2.7 - Withdrawal from Service: Refunds of Contributions - Date of Payment - Change of Mind

(This archived guidance relates to HMRC discretionary practice before the 6th April 2006. For current guidance on Registered Pension Schemes see the Registered Pension Schemes Manual)

[PN10.47]

We have no requirements about the date of payment of a refund of contributions. Normally if this option is available it will be exercised on leaving service. But a person who initially opted for a deferred benefit can subsequently change his/her mind and, subject to Social Security requirements and PSI13.2.6, take a refund of contributions at any time prior to receiving any benefit under any scheme relating to the same employer (see also PSI13.3.27).
