Preservation applies to all types of pension and to separate lump sum benefits (see PSI8.1.3) payable to the member at retirement or on death after retirement. The detailed requirements for preservation are the concern of the OPB and you should not become involved in matters relating to Social Security legislation. A brief outline in general terms of the main features of the legislation is given below. For fuller details see Joint Office Memorandum 78.
