PSI12.2.22 - Benefits on Death after Retirement: Lump Sum Benefits and Pension Guarantees - Guarantee payments - Widow(er)s’ and Dependants’ Pensions

(This archived guidance relates to HMRC discretionary practice before the 6th April 2006. For current guidance on Registered Pension Schemes see the Registered Pension Schemes Manual)

[PN12.7]

The only guarantee normally acceptable for a widow(er)’s or dependant’s pension is that related to the member’s contributions (see PSI12.2.8-9). Where, however, the widow(er)’s or dependant’s pension is provided by allocation (see PSI12.1.2-8), it may be guaranteed for a period ending 5 years after the date that the member’s pension commenced provided that the member’s pension is similarly guaranteed.
