PSI12.1.2 - Benefits on Death after Retirement: Pension Benefits - Allocated Pensions

(This archived guidance relates to HMRC discretionary practice before the 6th April 2006. For current guidance on Registered Pension Schemes see the Registered Pension Schemes Manual)

The rules of some schemes permit the member to surrender part of his/her own pension to provide a pension for his/her widow/widower or dependants following his/her death. This is known as “allocation”. It is permitted even if the scheme also provides a separate “own right” pension for the recipient (see PSI12.1.14-23).
