PSI10.1.25 - Retirement before Normal Retirement Date: General - Membership of Two Schemes of the Employer

(This archived guidance relates to HMRC discretionary practice before the 6th April 2006. For current guidance on Registered Pension Schemes see the Registered Pension Schemes Manual)

[PN7.27]

Some employees are members of more than one scheme of the employer. If such an employee leaves service within the age range mentioned in PSI10.1.3, he or she may, if the rules permit, be given immediate benefits from one or more schemes and deferred benefits from the other(s). (see PSI25.2.2 regarding the payment of benefits in the form of income drawdown). If maximum benefits on that basis are being provided, no further benefits can accrue but the deferred benefits may be increased in accordance with PSI13.3.21.

Note that employees who are members of AVC/FSAVC schemes may (subject to the scheme rules) draw their AVC benefits at any time between the ages of 50 and 75 regardless of whether they leave service or retire - see PSI25.3.1
