PSI9.1.15 - Service after Normal Retirement Date: General - Pre- FA 1989 - Maximum Benefits

(This archived guidance relates to HMRC discretionary practice before the 6th April 2006. For current guidance on Registered Pension Schemes see the Registered Pension Schemes Manual)

For members not subject to the post-Finance Act 1989 basis for late retirement (see PSI9.1.2), scheme rules normally give the employee three choices:

  1. To take all benefits at NRD,
  2. To defer all benefits until actual retirement (see Section 2 of this Part), or
  3. To take part or all of the benefits at any time between NRD and actual retirement (see Section 2 of this Part).

Where scheme rules allow, AVC benefits may be taken at any time between 50 and 75 regardless of whether the member retires or leaves service - see PSI25.3.1.
