PAYE26015 - employer records: magnetic media: magnetic media - EOY data

HMRC is able to accept certain employer annual returns on data cartridge, referred to here as ‘Magnetic Media’.

Many employers operate computerised payrolls or may have a payroll agent or bureau operating PAYE for them and may decide to use this method of submitting their year end documents.

Applications

All applications to submit returns by Magnetic Media must be made to NICO. If you receive any request for an application or further advice you should ask the employer to contact

In each case NICO will

• Consider the application
• Send the employer a formal notice of acceptance, or refusal of entry into the magnetic media scheme
• Liaise with the employer to test their computer

If you receive an enquiry from an employer about participating in the magnetic media scheme you should advise them that the scheme is being phased out and encourage them to consider other online filing services.
