A complex case can be a claim with one of the following
- 18 or more children
- Tax credits claimants working 16 hours or more a week and in
receipt of income-related Employment and Support Allowance (
ESA)
-
Polygamous
marriage
- Polyandrous marriage
The computer is not able to capture all the details of the claim and therefore, a manual payment must be issued.
If a change of circumstances is received on a complex case, the change will need to be made manually.
For example, you may receive notification of the birth of a new baby for a family which already has more than 18 children. This is a change of circumstances for a complex case, which will remain complex.
