Handling Exceptional Claims (Info)
There is an Action Guide for this subject, click on 'Next Page' to access it
Whilst scanning claim forms by rapid data capture (RDC) certain claims will be identified which cannot be fully captured. These exceptions are where a claim
- Fails the minimum data set
- Contains more than 8 critical errors
The RDC computer will produce a list of all claims that fail the minimum data set or contain more than 8 critical errors. The list will show the date the claim form was received. Aspire staff at Netherton will separate the exceptions and forward them to the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) staff at Netherton.
Minimum data set exceptions
Where the reason for the exception is minimum data set
- Try to repair the exception and resubmit the claim for scanning
Or, where you cannot repair it
- Return the claim to the claimant, providing you have a full address
Or, as a last resort
- Discard the claim
More than 8 critical errors exceptions
Where the reason for the exception is more than 8 critical errors, HMRC Netherton staff will manually capture the claim.
