Claimant Would Like To Repay Their Overpayment By Debit Card (Info)

There is an Action Guide for this subject, click on 'Next Page' to access it

Debt Management and Banking (DMB) now has a computer system called the Debit Card Service (DCS) which has the ability to accept payment by debit card (Switch / Maestro, Visa, Delta, Solo and Electron debit cards only). This means that claimants instead of paying by cash or cheque, can now use their debit cards to repay a tax credits overpayment.

This method of payment is however only available where the claimant's overpayment has been passed to the IDMS (Integrated Debt Management Service) computer system and is being worked by DMB.

If the overpayment is not being worked by DMB you should advise the claimant that they can repay their overpayment by one of these alternative methods

Their own bank or building society telephone banking service

The internet through their own bank or building society service

Or

Debit card at their local Post Office

The claimant will need payslip details to take to their bank, building society or local Post Office. If they do not have a payslip, then you can arrange for one to be sent to them.

If you are in contact with a claimant and they state they would like to pay back an overpayment of tax credits by debit card, you must not take any debit card information from the claimant.
