Request For A Next Day / Same Day Payment (Info)

The claimant may request a next day /same day payment of tax credits

  • Directly

Or, through one of the following offices

  • Job Centre Plus
  • Contact Centre
  • Department for Social Development
  • Enquiry Centre

You must consider the following criteria before deciding whether a next day / same day payment is appropriate

  • If the claimant receives CTC only, and is in receipt of IS, JSA or PC (formerly known as MIG), offer a next day payment first, but agree a same day payment if requested by the claimant. This is because CTC will be the main source of income
  • If the claimant receives CTC only, and is in receipt of another benefit, for example, Disability Living Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance ( ESA) or Incapacity Benefit, consider a next day payment. This is because CTC is not seen as the main source of income, but the claimant may require a replacement payment quicker than the normal payment cycle as they will have children to support
  • If the claimant receives CTC (including childcare) only, and has earnings (but is not entitled to WTC), normal payment should be considered unless the claimant’s reported circumstances are such that you feel that a next day payment is appropriate

Note: Bear in mind when deciding whether to issue a next day / same day payment that CTC may be essential for paying for childcare, but the claimant will have earnings to fall back on during the time taken to replace the missing payment using the normal payment cycle

  • If the claimant receives WTC only, normal payment should be paid. This is because the claimant will have earnings to fall back on, no children to support and WTC will not be a significant part of their income
  • If the claimant receives WTC and CTC and the payments are combined, for example both are paid on the same giro cheque, consider whether a next day payment is appropriate. This is because CTC may be essential for paying for childcare, but the claimant will have earnings to fall back on whilst payment is reissued using the normal payment cycle
