Repayment Of Tax Credits To Claimants (Info)

There are 2 Action Guides for this subject, click on 'Next Page' to access them

A claimant who has received a computer generated payment and also a manual payment may repay some of the tax credits to the Tax Credit Office (TCO).

They may then contact the TCO because their award has been re-profiled but the computer has not taken into account the payment they have made.

This is because all repayments made by tax credit claimants are currently being held on a suspense account at Accounting & Payments Services (A&PS) Cumbernauld. Currently the computer functionality is not available to record these payments against the claimant’s account.

You will not therefore be able to view these repayments in Function VIEW HOUSEHOLD ACCOUNT.

The claimant could contact

  • The Tax Credit Office (TCO)
  • An Enquiry Centre

Or

  • A Contact Centre

The office will check to see if the claim is correct.  Follow the guidance in Repayment Of Tax Credits To Claimants Queries in this section.

If the claimant is entitled to receive the payment back the TCO Service Team, Enquiry Centre or Contact Centre office will forward any written correspondence or a form TC648 to the relevant team informing them that a repayment is due.

A lump sum payment can be made by instructing A & PS Cumbernauld to issue a payable order to the claimant.

They will arrange for the payment to be issued the day they receive the completed form.
