Personal Cheque Received - Bank Liaison Team (Info)
There is an Action Guide for this subject, click on 'Next Page' to access it
The Tax Credit Office (TCO) will receive personal cheques direct or forms TC648 with payment details from
- Enquiry Centres
- Accounting & Payments Service (A&PS) Cumbernauld
Referrals will be sent to the Bank Liaison Team as the claimant will have returned the payment because they have received a tax credit payment incorrectly into their bank or building society account.
This means an award has been made to a claimant who has incorrect bank or building society account details.
These cases will need to be traced and the account details will need amending.
The Valuables Team will also identify personal cheques. They will forward all the relevant information to the TCO Service Teams for them to action.
The Service Team will trace the correct tax credit claim. To do this they will send a form TC687 (Bank Liaison pro–forma) to the Bank Liaison Team by Taxpost
The Bank Liaison Team will
- Trace the payment reference number
- Contact Banking Accounting & System Support (BASS) in Telford for them to trace the name and postcode of the correct tax credit claimant
And then
- Send the correct details back to the Service Team for them to action
