Personal Cheque Or Giro Presented at Enquiry Centre (Info)

A customer may return a giro or wish to make a payment by cheque or cash at an Enquiry Centre because they have
- Made a claim for tax credits, but the giro they have received has incorrect personal detailson it or they believe they have been overpaid
- Made a claim for tax credits, but believe the tax credits paid into their bank account has been overpaid, and they wish to repay the overpayment by personal cheque or cash
- Not claimed tax credits and are returning a giro they have received in error
- Not claimed tax credits, but have received tax credits into their bank account and they wish to repay the amount by personal cheque or cash
All records of cash and cheques paid into an HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) office or giros returned must be forwarded to the Tax Credit Office (TCO) Valuables Team by the Enquiry Centre
TCO Valuables Team will process any giro received as if it had been returned directly to the TCO
Personal cheques or cash received at an Enquiry Centre will be banked using the normal banking procedures.
