Death Of A Child - CTF
Referral (AG)
To deal with a referral from Child Trust Fund Office (CTFO)
regarding the death of a
child /
young person, consider
steps 1 - 16 below. The guide is presented as follows
Action on Priority 1 Team
| 1 | If you receive a WAM
referral from the Child Trust Fund Office (CTFO) on the Priority 1
Team, use Function AMEND APPLICATION to determine if the date of
death of the child has been recorded
- Select the Correction option from the drop down menu. You will
be taken to the Key Entry Details screen
- In the Key Entry Details screen
- Enter the claimant's
NINO
And then
Notes:
- If you receive the message 'You are not authorised access to
this record', you must refer the case to the appropriate SMU to
deal with the referral
- If the case has a specialist interest such as Compliance or
Complex Case you must contact the specialist area before taking any
action following the guidance for the specific specialist area

| 2 | Use Function AMEND
APPLICATION and in the Amend Application screen
- Click on the [Ch] button on the application toolbar
- Click on the deceased child’s name
- If the child's date of death has been recorded make a note of
the date of death and then go to step 3
- If no date of death is recorded, go to step 3
|
| 3 | Use Function VIEW AWARD
and
- Enter the NINO for the claimant provided on the referral form
in the Key Entry field
- Select the [All] checkbox
- Click on the [OK] button
And then

| 4 | If you are
- Taken to the Select Award screen, go to step 5
- Taken directly to the Award Summary screen, go to step 6
- Shown the message 'No match found' go to step 14
|
Child Tax Credit information
| 5 | In the Select Award
screen
- Click on the latest version of the claim, or if the date of
death of the child has already been recorded the latest version
prior to the date of death, for the current year (CY)
- Click on the [OK] button
And then

| 6 | In the Award Summary
screen view the Tax Credit Type field and if
- A figure for Child Tax Credit (CTC) is shown make a note on the
WAM referral that CTC has been awarded for the current year
- No figure for CTC is shown make a note on the WAM referral that
CTC has not been awarded
And then
|
| 7 | If at step 4 you were
- Taken directly to the Award Summary screen there will be no
previous year details, make a note on the WAM referral that no CTC
was awarded for the previous year then go to step 10
- Taken to the Select Award screen, go to step 8
|
| 8 | Click on the [Cancel]
button to return to the Select Award screen
- Scroll down the list to the latest award for the previous year,
and if
- There is no award for the previous year make a note on the WAM
referral form that no CTC has been awarded for the previous year
then go to step 10
- There is an award for the previous year, go to step 9
|
| 9 | Click on the latest
version of the previous year award, and if
- A figure for Child Tax Credit (CTC) is shown make a note on the
WAM referral that CTC has been awarded for the previous year
- No figure for CTC is shown make a note on the WAM referral that
no CTC has been awarded for the previous year
And then

Claimant income information
| 10 | Use Function AMEND
APPLICATION to record the claimant's income details on the WAM
referral form
- Select the Correction option from the drop down menu
- Go to step 11
|
| 11 | In the Key Entry Details
screen
- Enter the claimant's NINO
- Select the [Latest] checkbox
- Click on the [OK] button
And then
|
| 12 | From the Amend
Application field click on the [Inc1] button on the application
toolbar
- Record details of any income received figures shown for the
current and previous year onto the WAM referral form
Note: If it is a joint claim record any details in
the [Inc2] field
- Record any start and end dates shown for
IS,
JSA,
ESA,
PC (formerly known as
MIG)
Note: Start or end dates for ESA cannot be earlier than
27/10/2008
And then

| 13 | Click on the [History]
button on the top toolbar
- Record any start and end dates shown for IS, JSA/ESA or PC for
the previous year
Note: From 27/10/2008, you must use the JSA field to record
any start or end dates for ESA. From this date, messages on the tax
credits computer referring to JSA will mean either JSA or ESA. You
must refer to the Access to DWP Data System manual for advice on
how to confirm the actual benefit
Then

| 14 | Note clearly on the WAM
referral form that you have no trace of a claim to Tax Credits and
go to step 15 |
