Notification Received Recognising A Claimant’s Acquired Gender (Info)
A ruling by the European Court of Human Rights has resulted
in the United Kingdom Government making provision for
transsexual people
to be recognised in their acquired gender.
As a consequence, the Gender Recognition Act 2004 came into effect from 4 April 2005. This will allow transsexual people to be
- Legally recognised in their acquired gender
And
- To benefit from any rights and responsibilities that are associated with that acquired gender
Transsexual people were able to submit an application to be legally recognised in their acquired gender to the Gender Recognition Panel from 4 January 2005.
If you receive written notification that a claimant is now legally recognised in their acquired gender, you must forward the correspondence by Taxpost Direct (This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000)
