Note: Before making any changes, you must follow the guidance in Establish If A Change Can Be Made

A claimant may inform you that a child or young person is returning to full-time, non-advanced education (FTNAE) or an approved training scheme following a period in which they ceased FTNAE or approved training.

Where a child, having reached the age of 16 to 19 years is returning to FTNAE or an approved training scheme, following a gap in their education, the date to be entered must be the actual date that the child returned to FTNAE.

Note: A young person will not be included in the calculation of entitlement for a claimant if they enrolled on

  • A course of FTNAE after their 19th birthday
  • An approved training scheme after their 19th birthday

Where there is a gap in education, you will be able to enter the change on the computer to include a Full Time Education (FTE) or approved training scheme start date, up to 138 days in advance.

For further information on 16 year olds continuing in FTNAE, follow the guidance in Continuing Full-Time Non-Advanced Education
